TURNING WASTE
INTO WORTH TO SAVE OUR SEAS.

LOCAL · SOCIAL · LOW-TECH · TRACEABLE

The Problem :

EVERY SECOND,
10,000 PLASTIC BOTTLES
FLOW INTO THE OCEAN.

We all know plastic pollution in the ocean is a problem harming ecosystems, threatening public health and endangering the livelihoods of the 3 billion people who depend on the sea for food and income.

For many, the crisis feels too vast, too political or too complex to solve.

Across Morocco, plastic pollution is an economic reality, and a social justice question, affecting families, fishers and entire coastal communities. This is where MIKA comes in and works at the intersection of urgent global need, systemic gaps and human lived experience.

At MIKA, we believe that solving the plastic crisis doesn’t start with billion-dollar factories or distant policy pledges, it starts locally. With simple, replicable, low-tech solutions with the people already doing the work and with partners across sectors who want to turn waste into lasting value.

WHAT WE DO

1. COLLECT

We collect  plastic waste locally in Morocco on beaches, in coastal villages, and across rural areas where no formal waste system exists

2. SUPPORT

We support waste pickers and women's cooperatives by creating and formalising fair-income jobs.

3. SORT & BALE

We sort and bale using low-tech platforms that are affordable, easy to replicate and close to collection points.

4. RECYCLE

We recycle waste into high-quality, traceable raw materials with leading manufacturers in Morocco and Europe.

5. TRANSFORM

We partner with brands to turn this recycled material into textiles, furniture and design products that carry the story of oceans restored and lives uplifted.

What We Do

Circularity Isn’t A Buzzword… It’s Systems In Action.

Our approach tackles the global criticism that “recycling isn’t the solution” by reframing the conversation. Recycling alone won’t fix the plastic crisis but ignoring the plastic already in our oceans and on our beaches certainly won’t either.

Circularity requires lots of interventions at once from reducing production, shifting regulation, designing better materials and managing existing waste with transparency and value.

MIKA is part of that multi-solution future: practical, human-centred and economically viable.
